DIGITAL Download. Moore St. fireworks

The scene happened about this time of the year. November 5th is Fireworks night in Britain. Fireworks were banned in Ireland but Moore Street entrepreneurs spotted a cracker and imported them. Many a time on Moore Street I was accosted with the words "Do ya want Bangers yung f'la?".

I could afford a roll of the small red candle type with white wicks which at home my siblings and I loved to explode. These "sellers" always had a sideways eye for the law and quickly scarpered when a Garda/Police/Rosser approached. One is on the opposite side of the street as we speak!

I also remember on the stalls the prices for fruit etc had a large shilling and very small penny sign.

Another memory were the lady sellers shouting "Get the last of yer cheeky Charleys" (toy monkeys if I remember) especially leading up to Christmas.
