"Nancy Balls"

"Nancy Balls"

"Nancy Balls".

As kids we used to go to the nearest sweetshop ( which was also a hardware, grocery and food shop) when school ended. My favourite was "Nancy Balls" which I realised years later were Aniseed balls. You got a nice bag for one penny and then some days it could be a Flash or a Macaroon bar for Twopence - the choice was endless!

Even though we took our time to decide the owner and his assistant did not seem to mind. The best bit was selecting different sweets from the large jars, having them weighed to correspond to your money and eating out of the bag with your classmates walking down the street.
