The Clock

The Clock

This painting shows a lady called Kate Mhary Ann (I believe that is the spelling??) who lived a short walking distance from my uncle Antony's house in Mayo. My memory of her was that she kept her house neat as a pin but was always welcoming and had a great peace about her.

The only sound I used to hear in her house was the slow ticking of the large wall mounted clock and even today it gives a sense of calm when I remember it. I asked her why it was an hour different than it should be and she replied that she always kept it "at God almighty's time" so it was never changed for daylight saving.
